We have been satisfied customers since 2006. Our front lawn is still beautiful and has been kept weed free. We especially appreciate the care  H &G takes to use treatments that do not endanger the pond and nourishes the soil.  The birds and rabbits love it.

Hertzler and George – We dealt with Brian Kemp for our trash pad and rear patio. We can’t say enough how well Brian took care of us. He patiently brought samples to us, quite a few times, listened to what we needed and created a beautiful rendering, with plants that we were thrilled with. His guidance was what made this all come together seamlessly.

Over the past year, Hertzler & George has reinstalled a retaining wall, renewed the gravel on our long driveway, and taken care of weeding our flower beds during the summer months when we were away. Once again I am very pleased with the excellent work H&G did on my property.  They turned a section of my ugly front yard with invasive Bermuda grass into a beautiful and simple flower bed with mulch and many small bushes.  This striking transformation adds greatly to the house’s curb appeal.  I look forward to them coming back out this fall and replacing the rest of the front yard with sod and removing all the undesirable Bermuda grass.  Brian was easy and pleasant to work and plan with.  He always responded to my questions immediately.  Jon and his crew were likewise very nice, efficient, and perfectionists in planting my new yard.  Many thanks and accolades to H&G once again!

He was right on time, very thorough, and just a very nice fella who we both liked right away and had confidence in. We really liked how he gave us options and listened to what we wanted. We scheduled the work, it was done right on time, and it looks great! Brian was even nice enough to do a video walk through for us afterwards as we weren’t in town. Just a short note to thank you for all the help you gave us with our garden this year. Jonathon again did a wonderful job doing the bed detailing this summer, as did the mulching crew in the spring. I don’t know the name of the woman who supervised the mulching crew, but I want to let you know how professional she was. In fact, the entire crew was pleasant to work with, especially to experience the care that they took with their work.

Thanks also for being so flexible with the changes we requested for our mowing schedule.

Brian came out last week to try to assess a problem we are having in our yard.  He arrived on time, was extremely courteous and took a considerable amount of time analyzing our situation.  While he was unable to reach a solution, he did take the time to research and recommend another business that might be able to help us.  That kind of customer service will make us more likely to call on Hertzler & George if other issues arise.  Thanks, Brian!

We hired H&G to help us re-do our landscaping after a different local landscaping company did a sub par job with plant selections and installations. That company also was very hard to deal with. H&G stepped right up with Jennifer creating a new planting scheme comprising of native plants with some we had never seen before and which we love! She is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant to work with – a true landscaping charm! Jon did the installations and also did a fantastic job. He was very meticulous on planting and finishing the job neatly with mulch. Unlike that other company’s installer, Jon left us extremely happy with the job done. Customer service on the phone – pleasant, patient and helpful. The only, and ever so minor aspect of their work, is they don’t offer a guarantee on the plants or install. I suppose that’s becoming industry standard. However, now looking over all the plantings with a bit of time passing, I am confident that there won’t need to be any replacements. Watering is of course the key element. Thank you H&G, the country cottage landscaping we’ve wanted is now ours – FIVE STARS!

Had these guys build a surface-grade patio in May 2023. They looked at the project, sent me a proposed scope of work and contract via email, took a deposit of 1/2 the total via bank transfer. They set a date weeks later to start the job. They showed up on time, worked professionally and cleaned up at the end of the day. Whole job took 3 days, and they even replaced all the patio furniture on the last day. The final product was precisely what I asked for, done in a high-quality, workmanlike way.

H&G are not the cheapest guys out there, but for the extra money you get a professional product, professionally executed, on time, on budget. Honestly: I don’t think it gets any better than that.

Hertzler and George were contracted to perform some landscaping for a seller of mine to get the home ready to show. They had just finished an extensive re-landscaping of the next door neighbors entire yard. I was very impressed by their attention to detail and their desire to satisfy their client. Joe Hertzler goes the extra mile to achieve complete client satisfaction. They provide a complete mix of landscaping design services and maintenance of existing landscaping

We think it’s going to be fabulous! I love the combination of bittersweet, climbing rose and clematis on the pergola and the multi seasonal features of many of the plants you have chosen is going to be wonderful year round. I just moved from New York to Toano, VA and my wife starting looking for someone to helps us with our patio. We still haven’t done our patio, but H&G gave us a very good price to take care of our front and backyard since was a new house and the installation of the grass was bad, and the guys have done an amazing job improving it and maintaining it.

What a pleasure it was to see Craig and his new helper come out today in the rain and do our pruning. They did a great job under the most trying conditions. They not only pruned but blew off the hard surfaces around our house and even brought our recycle can closer to the garage so we didn’t have to walk very far to bing it indoors. We’re really impressed with Craig and his work ethic and leadership skills. Very good job!

Joe: I just wanted to give you a quick update – my wife had her big event last weekend, so I didn’t really have the chance to look at the property closely until this weekend – and Barbara / your team did a wonderful job / the entire property looked fantastic. Kudos to Barbara and her crew! Our courtyard at 125 Warehams Point has never looked better! I was worried about the Japanese maple, but “in person” it looks terrific.  Being severely pruned makes it look tidy and sculptural.  The next owners can decide whether to keep that look, or let it be more informal. Love the small planting choices too… a bit of color during the drab winter months. So THANK YOU, Barbara, and thanks to your obviously fabulous crew. I know that you will be returning to restore the bricks to a more level playing field, but in the meantime, good concept and good execution of your plan.

Barbara, Josh came yesterday with his helper and worked most all of a work day, they are amazing, I’ve never had any one in twenty years living here as diligent in solving my sprinkler needs.

Hertzler & George has provided the landscape services (maintenance, design, repairs and preventative care) for the Boundary Homeowners Association for the past several years. We contracted with H&G after several years of sub-standard maintenance at our property by a variety of small, local lawn care providers. H&G proposed a plan to preserve the original landscape architect’s concept and restore the plantings and grounds to a scale that complements our buildings, walkways, driveways and the various areas of full sun and full shade. In addition, H&G has recommended economical and attractive landscape designs for areas that have reached the end of their attractive lifespan, and our turf has never looked better. Since our property fronts an intersection of two downtown streets, it is important that our grounds look their best.

We have been very satisfied with H&G’s services, which include not only basic lawn care services but also a wide variety of advanced techniques for protecting and ensuring the health and appearance of our entire property — from planting bed pest control and irrigation needs to hand pruning of shrubs, preservation treatments for aging trees and prompt clean-up after wind storms or tree limb damage. H&G also maintains our brick walkways and handrails, and they have recommended upgrades to our walkway lighting system, which has reached the end of its useful life. The H&G team is professional, prompt and polite, and they are easy to contact via office phone, individuals’ mobile phones or e-mail. Their contract services are easy to use and we don’t have to call to ask if the grass needs to be cut or leaves need collecting or shrubs need pruning. Our quarterly walkthroughs with an H&G representative are especially productive as we review maintenance and long-term design goals and budgets. We consider H&G a partner in improving and maintaining our property. Their costs are reasonable and their services are superb.
